Cohort Statement of Faith
Thus, we acknowledge every doctrine of Scripture is not listed, nor is every reference applying to each point listed. This statement is a framework which we conclude is consistent with the whole of Scripture. We also recognize that any doctrinal statement, short the entire Scriptures is in itself inadequate.
We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (John 10:30, 14:26; Matthew 28:19; I Corinthians 8:6; I John 5:7-8)
We believe that man was created in the image of God, that he sinned and thereby incurred not only physical death, but also that spiritual death which is separation from God; and that all human beings are born with a sinful nature, and in the case of those who reach the age of moral responsibility, are sinners in thought, word and deed. (Genesis 1:31, 8:21; Psalms 51:5; Ephesians 2:1-3; Proverbs 22:15; Jeremiah 17:9)
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures as a representative and substitutional sacrifice and that all who believe in Him are justified on the grounds of His shed blood. (John 3:16-17, 14:16; Hebrews 9:22, 10:10; Colossians 1:22; I Peter 1:19)
We believe in the resurrection of the crucified body of our Lord, in His ascension into Heaven, and in His present life there as High Priest and Advocate. (Luke 24:1-53; I Thessalonians 4:13-18; Acts 1:1-11)
We believe in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as verbally inspired of God, and inerrant in the original writing, and that they are of supreme and final authority of faith and life. (2 Timothy 3:16-17; I Peter 1:23-25; John 10:34-35, 17:17)
We believe that biblical dynamic of marriage and the family as one man and one woman and that a physically intimate relationship is to be reserved and expressed between a married man and woman. (Genesis 2:24, 5:2; Matthew 5:28, 19:5; Ephesians 5:31; Hebrews 13:4; I Corinthians 7:2; Romans 1:26-28; I Timothy 1:10)
